school is my life

School started and I was never more ready to get back into the groove of things. I definitely had a moment during break where I woke up, sat in my bed, looked about my room, and wondered what I could possibly do with my time. It could also be that I have just under 4 months left, as commencement in on May 18th...joy!

As for my classes, so far things are fine. I'm trying to cram in all the work I can get done ahead of time, so I won't die later on, when this new found motivation wears out. But let me talk a little bit about my classes...

French--grrr...I wouldn't take french if I had a choice in the matter.

Latin--lovely lovely language with my AMATOR! I sort of fell away from Latin last semester, but I already feel that things are getting better. But its a whole other world, this poetry business. I will take the liberty to post this aside: during the conference, I attended a lecture that featured Ovid & now I sort of lover him. I haven't gotten this excited over an author in quite a bit, so we'll see how this goes. now IF ONLY I could get poetry!

History--it's a class on the 'Later Middle Ages.' in a lot of ways, this class is relatively familiar to me (Ashley will remember 'Medieval heritage'), but also absolutely terrifying. I'm applying to have this count towards graduate credit, and thus, I have to do graduate work. except that I'm a undergrad still. I know I'll be applying myself the most in this class, but I don't know if I'll ever be able to shake the feeling that I'm just waiting around for the other shoe to fall.

Humanities--Modern Europe. I'm really not a 'modern' person (can you tell??) but the professor teaching this course is amazing. and after the hell I went through last semester, I think I deserve to end with one of my favs.

Senior Sem--this class has the potential to be my favorite, because it seems to blend the best of both my worlds. its a humanities class yes, but taught by a classicist (hey sonya, you remember Joe right? the one who lovers you) and all around good guy. Topic on the table: the symposium. and yes, eating, drinking, and dressing up in costume will be involved. And the greatest part about this class? It's with all of the majors in the department who are graduating. All 16 of us. and that's including those people graduating in the summer and next fall. I absolutely love it. It's this gathering of all of us who have gone through the relatively same experiences out of this same kind of love for what we do. Are we elitist? heck yes.
